New Tariffs on Trucks and Buses (Effective Nov. 1, 2025)

🚛 Truck & Bus Tariffs Hit Nov. 1 — What Fleets Need to Know

Starting November 1, 2025, the U.S. government will apply a 25% tariff on imported medium- and heavy-duty trucks and their parts, and a 10% tariff on imported buses. This includes everything from large pickups to 18-wheelers, plus major components like engines, tires, and transmissions. For fleets, dealers, and operators — this means costs are going up fast.

🔧 What’s Included

  • 25% tariff on imported Class 3–8 trucks
  • 25% tariff on key parts: engines, chassis, transmissions, tires
  • 10% tariff on imported buses
  • Effective on goods imported on or after Nov. 1, 2025
  • Applies to fully built vehicles and certain kits

These tariffs do not stack with existing 232 steel/aluminum duties, but all other taxes and trade fees still apply.

⚙️ What About USMCA?

If a truck is built with enough North American content, it qualifies for a reduced tariff. Only the foreign (non-U.S.) portion is taxed — not the full price. But importers must document U.S. content properly, or Customs will charge the full 25%.

For parts, the exemption isn’t active yet. Until the Commerce Department finalizes how to calculate U.S. content in truck parts, all parts are fully taxed at 25%.

💲What It Means for You

  • New truck prices will rise — especially for non-U.S. models
  • Parts and maintenance costs will jump, hitting fleets and repair budgets
  • Operators and dealers should review sourcing and ask about USMCA compliance
  • Order early if you’re planning to import
  • Used truck prices may spike as demand shifts to domestic units

These changes are permanent until repealed — there’s no expiration set.
